Seduced, abandoned, and left pregnant and unwed, Rebecca finds a new life with Jake, a ranchhand who marries her at the request of her father.

Sweet Lullaby eBook Lorraine Heath

This is a quiet little story that grabs the reader. I had a hard time putting it down. Jake marries Rebecca to save her from scandal. He'd been in love with her but thought she was unattainable until Rebecca's lover ran away and left her pregnant.

When Rebecca's wealthy father asked Jake to marry her, Jake didn't think twice. However, Jake and Rebecca decided to start over in Texas, where Jake had inherited some land. This did not go down well with Rebecca's father -- who promptly disinherited Rebecca.

All is not peaches-and-cream in Texas, however. Jake has two half-brothers who were passed over so that Jake could inherit the land. The brothers inherited their father's debts and Jake got the property. The two brothers seem to want a fair division of the land from Jake.

This unique story grabs the reader and won't let go until the end. Beautifully written.

Sweet Lullaby eBook Lorraine Heath Reviews

I boo hoo'ed when I read "Gone With The Wind" and there have been a few others over the years that have had tears streaming down my cheeks. This one kept me wondering til the end if it was going to end like I wanted it to or not right until the end, and that made it a great read. If I was ever going to dream up a perfect man's character, Jake would be the guy.

I read a review on this book that said it is unbelievable and I have trouble understanding those reviews. Of course they are unbelievable, they are not true stories. I have downloaded nearly 700 books on my in the past year so I read a lot. To me there is not a single romance novel out there that is believable. That the point of romance novels, they are just a story that makes you think ... if a man could only be like that in real life. Then hopefully you feel a little something after you finish the book. If someone wants a believable story they should not even bother with this genre.
This was a bit of role reversal. It wasn’t the guy doing something wrong this time. I got to admit it made me a bit bitter, but overall with the happy ending I liked it. The slow burn was a nice touch.
The heroine in this story got pregnant and then left alone and in disgrace. The hero enters the story and marry the h who is still hoping that the man who got her pregnant will come back for her. The poor H give her all his name (which saved her from disgrace in their society), his home, and eventually his unconditional love. And what did the h did in return? She gives a lip service to the H while still dreaming and pining (secretly) for the love of her life which - I repeat - is the one who left her pregnant and in disgrace. The heroine got her wish, the scoundrel came back and she went with him and left the man who gave all for her. I mean she was literally a pampered brat under the heroes care. And then after having good time with the scoundrel around the neighborhood, she got mad because the scoundrel is not pampering her like the H did with her. So she pouts because she has to share the said scoundrel and come running back to the H.
Of course the hen-peck hero accepted her with open arms.
The heroine in this story did not deserve the loyalty and devotion given her. I can hardly call this a love story. I think it should have been called The Brat Finally Grew Up.
Despite my words, I say it again, this author can write plots and characters that just pulls you in.
This is the first (and only) book I have ever read that as soon as I finished it, I turned back to page one and read the entire book again. I have now read Sweet Lullaby perhaps six or seven times and I love it as much every time I read it. I fell in love with Jake and I wished I could have Rebecca as my best friend! This book is definitely a keeper! (1998)

Since I wrote the initial review of this book back in 1998, I have read it several more times and my opinion of this book has not changed. In fact, I bought a second copy of the book so I would have a backup in case something happens to my other copy or in case I wear it out by reading it so much! Buying a second copy is definitely a first for me! (2007)

Okay, it's official. Call the men in the little white coats. I have lost my ever lovin mind! I previously stated that I bought a second copy of the book so I would have a backup. I just now saw that this book is now available for so I immediately purchased a THIRD copy for my so I could have it with me at all times. I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about getting this third copy. After all, when CD's first came out I bought some CD's that I already owned in record form and I'm sure people who own an IPod (I don't) have songs on it that they also owned on a CD. The format has changed but one thing that has NOT changed since 1998 is that this is still my favorite book because of how much I loved Jake. While I am happy to see that this is available for , one thing I do not like as much as the 1998 copy is the cover! I loved the 1998 cover but the 2013 cover...not so much. (2013)
I liked this book very much except for the character of Rebecca. What a selfish cow! Jake was sweet, kind, and gentle to the point that I could no longer have much respect for him. Ok, they both went into marriage knowing the score, but by the 5,000th "Anything you want, honey" and "I love you too much to hold you", I was groaning in disbelief. How stupid does a woman have to get---you show up at the hotel to run off with the guy you think is your True Love...and he's got a naked blonde in his bed! A woman with a brain in her head would slap him, say "Drop Dead." and return to her not-so-handsome but idiotically devoted husband. She was too stupid to get a happy ending, in my opinion. Sweet book, but a little too much masochism on the part of the Hero.
